Can ginseng be grown in pots?

Ginseng can be potted, but you need to pay attention to the growth habits of ginseng when planting it at home. If it is not properly maintained, it is very easy to cause the roots of the ginseng seedlings to rot. In winter, ginseng will enter a dormant period. At this time, you should reduce watering and keep the soil from being dry.

Ginseng is a moisture-loving and shade-tolerant plant, so it cannot be exposed to strong sunlight. It is better to choose a deep pot to ensure good drainage and sufficient fertility. Ginseng planted in the same year will generally bloom and bear fruit in the second year.

Ginseng potted cultivation method

1. Soil preparation

When planting potted ginseng, you need to provide it with suitable growth soil. You can use nutrient soil made by mixing five parts of leaf mold, three parts of garden soil, and two parts of coconut bran soil as the cultivation medium. You also need to prepare a flowerpot with good drainage and large space for ginseng. The potting soil needs to be disinfected before use.

2. Pruning

Potted ginseng is generally pruned in spring and autumn every year, with light pruning being the main method in spring and heavy pruning being appropriate in autumn to facilitate plant growth.

3. Watering

When planting ginseng in a pot, you need to water it once every week. When watering, you need to let the water flow down along the wall of the pot to soak all the soil. It is best not to use tap water to avoid the bleach in the tap water affecting the growth of ginseng. You can use unpolluted mineral water or rainwater that is rich in various nutrients.

4. Fertilization

The basal fertilizer for ginseng is mainly organic fertilizer, which has a long fertilizer effect, complete nutrients, and can improve the soil. In addition, some slow-release inorganic fertilizers, such as diammonium phosphate, triple phosphate fertilizer, superphosphate, etc. can also be used as basal fertilizer.

5. Suitable environment

After planting potted ginseng, it needs to be moved to a ventilated and breathable semi-shaded environment for maintenance to prevent the plant from being burned by strong light. It is also necessary to spread a layer of humus on the surface of the potted ginseng soil to keep it warm and moisturized.
