Rooting time of red maple cuttings

Red maple is suitable for cuttings in spring. Generally, one-year-old branches are used for cuttings in spring. It can also be done in summer. Just choose young branches grown in the same year. The temperature in summer is relatively high, so more management is needed after cuttings to prevent the branches from dying.

If the red maple cuttings are carried out according to normal procedures, they will generally take root in about a month, and at the latest they will take root and sprout within 45 days .

Red maple cutting rooting method

1. Branch selection: Before grafting, you should choose a mother tree with good growth. Select strong, well-growing and insect-free branches from the mother tree. You don’t need to use branches that are too long, about 8-15cm will be enough.

2. Substrate: Prepare the substrate for cuttings in advance. Under normal circumstances, the soil prepared with river sand and yellow mud is the best. This substrate will be more conducive to the rooting of branches.

3. Treatment: The leaves on the lower part of the branches can be cut off, leaving 2-3 leaves on the top. The bottom needs to be cut obliquely. Prepare the prepared rooting liquid, then soak the branches in it for 6-12 hours and then take them out.

4. Cuttings: When cutting, there should be a certain distance between each cutting branch. Insert the branch into the substrate to about half the depth, press it with the surrounding soil and water it thoroughly.

Red maple cutting management

1. After the red maple cuttings have taken root, they can be exposed to the sun. At this time, they can see some weak sunlight. Be careful to avoid the midday sun, otherwise it will cause the leaves to wilt.

2. After the red maple cuttings have taken root, you can apply fertilizer. You can use urea and potassium dihydrogen phosphate aqueous solution for foliar fertilizer, once every 10 days to ensure rapid growth.

3. After the red maple cuttings, you can water it thoroughly once. It is best to keep the environmental humidity at around 80%. When cutting, as long as the environment is ventilated, the potting soil must be kept moist, and the environment and branches should be sprayed with water frequently to maintain moisture retention.
