Soilless cultivation technology of lotus

The effect of soilless cultivation of lotus is not good. It is difficult for lotus to survive and it is difficult to grow, germinate and bloom.

Matrix

For soilless cultivation of lotus, some fine sand, gravel and other materials can be used as the substrate. The substrate must be cleaned repeatedly. Gravel is not soil and can easily scratch the lotus. If it is not cleaned, it may cause infection.

Nutrient solution

Lotus soilless cultivation can use nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, which are generally applied once a week.

process

1. Culture medium : To prevent the lotus seeds from floating up, you can use some fine sand, gravel and other materials as the medium for soilless cultivation. The medium must be cleaned repeatedly. Gravel is not soil and it can easily scratch the lotus seeds and cause infection.

2. Potting : Wash the mud and sand on the lotus root seeds, then disinfect them in copper sulfate solution for 5 minutes, remove them, rinse them with clean water and put them into the pot. Plant them in fine sand, with the front lower and the back higher to prevent the lotus seeds from floating.

3. Nutritional supplement : Without soil, the sand in the container cannot store nutrients, so you need to fertilize the lotus frequently. Nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium and other nutrients are generally applied once a week. Lotus seeds like fertilizer, but you must not fertilize too much, otherwise it will cause the lotus seeds to rot and die.

4. Protect during the winter : Before winter comes, soilless lotus should be moved to a warm place indoors for the winter, because fine sand cannot keep warm and can easily freeze the lotus seeds. You can throw the lotus pot into the pond and fish it out next year; you can also bury the lotus pot in a shallow ditch and cover it with 20 cm thick soil in winter. Wait until next year to carry out potted maintenance!

Technical points

Pots : Because the lotus stems growing in water have many tubular vents, which increase their buoyancy. If ordinary hydroponic containers are used, the lotus roots will inevitably float, the plants will tilt, and they will not grow normally.

Nutrients : The nutrients needed for lotus hydroponics are mainly prepared by the producers themselves. You can use 20 grains of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ternary compound fertilizer as raw materials, add water to dissolve, and add the impurity-free transparent liquid on the top into the pot.

Notes on soilless cultivation of lotus

1. Improve pH value : Long-term application of fertilizer can make the fine sand alkaline. The best pH value of lotus is between 6.5 and 7. You can add some ferrous sulfate solution while applying nutrients.

2. Reasonable watering : Soilless lotus needs timely watering, especially during the growth process, the pot should not be short of water. Generally, water once a day, and water once in the morning and evening in the hot summer season to ensure the normal growth of lotus.

3. Adequate light : Lotus cannot grow without sunlight. If it is not exposed to the sun for a long time, it will not only grow poorly but also will not bloom.

4. Windproof and warm : Lotus grown without soil cannot grow strong and is easily loosened by strong winds, affecting the root system. Therefore, in windy weather, the potted plants should be moved indoors or blocked by tools.
