How long is the growth period of Metasequoia?

Growth cycle of Metasequoia

Some Metasequoia trees can live for seventy or eighty years, and some can live for more than six hundred years. Metasequoia trees have strong adaptability and are suitable for places with flat terrain, deep soil and moist soil. Generally speaking, the Metasequoia seedlings you buy can grow about one meter a year. The height of ordinary Metasequoia seedlings is about 40 centimeters. With careful maintenance, they can grow to 150 centimeters.

Growth rate of Metasequoia

Metasequoia is also a fast-growing tree species that grows very quickly and has very low requirements for the growing environment. This characteristic makes it very advantageous in urban greening. Adult plants can grow to about 40 to 50 meters and have great ornamental and economic value.

Metasequoia growth cycle management

Temperature management: Metasequoia prefers a warm and humid climate in its growth environment, with cool summers and snowy but not severely cold winters. The annual average temperature of its origin is 13°C, the extreme minimum temperature is -8°C, the extreme maximum temperature is around 24°C, and the frost-free period is 230 days.

Fertilization management:

1. Apply base fertilizer when planting in pots. Apply enough base fertilizer first. When applying fertilizer, be sure to pay attention not to let the fertilizer come into direct contact with the roots of Metasequoia, otherwise the roots may be burned.

2. Water thoroughly after planting. When the Metasequoia slowly starts to grow, you can apply fertilizer for the second time.

3. Please note that you should not apply fertilizer during the period from planting in pots to growing new roots, because there is no root system to absorb nutrients, which can easily lead to indigestion of fertilizer and is not good for root growth.

4. Wait until new roots grow before applying some liquid fertilizer in an appropriate amount to help promote the growth of new roots.

5. Fertilize frequently during the growth period after new roots grow. You can apply light fertilizer once every ten days or so. Remember not to apply concentrated fertilizer to ensure sufficient nutrients to promote growth.
