The correct way to water azaleas and how to manage them in winter

1. Watering method

1. Water quality: When watering azalea, choose water quality suitable for plant growth. Apply acidic water, or add a little ferrous sulfate to the water and mix it. Alkaline water will slow down the growth of plants, and long-term use will cause the plants to die. There must be no chlorine in the water, and tap water should be left for a day or two before use.

2. Don’t water unless the soil is dry: Before watering, you must first determine whether the soil is dry. You can gently knock on the flowerpot. If it sounds dull, then there is no need to water. If the sound is crisp, it means the soil is dry and needs watering.

3. Water thoroughly: When watering the plants, water them thoroughly each time. Generally, stop watering when the water flows out from the bottom of the pot. Avoid stagnant water in the potting soil, as this can easily cause root rot.

2. Winter management

1. Temperature: When managing in winter, the room temperature needs to be maintained at 5-10℃. If the temperature is not high enough, you can cover it with a film to keep it warm. Generally, when it is below 5℃, it will stop growing.

2. Water: Its growth rate will be slow in winter, so you don’t need to water it too much, and you need to control the number of watering times. Water it only after the soil is dry, and watering should be done at noon, otherwise its roots will be irritated.
