Where does kelp like to grow?

Kelp generally likes to grow in the sea with relatively low water temperature. At the same time, it also likes to grow on rocks on the seashore at low tide. Generally, artificially cultivated kelp grows on ropes. Bamboo is also a good substrate for cultivating kelp.

Kelp is native to northern Korea and Hokkaido, Japan. Since its introduction into my country, it has grown in coastal areas such as Liaodong, Shandong Peninsula, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong and Fujian. Among them, Xiapu in Fujian, Dalian in Liaoning and Rongcheng in Shandong are the three main kelp producing areas in my country.

Kelp growth environment

Kelp is a perennial large edible algae that prefers to attach to the rocks on the seabed and grow in the sea with relatively low water temperature. Artificial cultivation should be mostly carried out in flat muddy bottoms, in sea areas with clean water and a depth of more than 5 meters.

Kelp Growing Conditions

Kelp has very high requirements for the temperature and water flow of the growing environment, and the requirements at different growth stages are very different, so when kelp is growing, the temperature should be kept at around 1-13°C as much as possible; sea areas with deep water, strong currents and large waves are more suitable as breeding areas, and the breeding effect will be better in sea areas with cold water masses and upwellings.
