When is the best time to sow petunia seeds?

Petunia seed sowing time

Petunia likes a warm environment. It is generally best to sow it in spring from March to April. The specific time depends on the region. If it is in the warm southern region, it can be sown in early spring from February to March. If it is in the northern region, it should be postponed to April to May. If the ambient temperature is between 20-24 degrees, the planting survival rate can be improved.

Petunia seed planting method and steps

1. Seed planting

Select healthy, disease-free petunia seeds, soak them in clean water for a while, wait for the seed skin to soften, place them in loose soil at a certain distance, water them to keep the soil moist, wrap the soil with a layer of plastic film to keep it warm and moist, place them in a ventilated and cool place, and wait for them to take root and sprout.

2. Planting and maintenance

In about 15 days, the petunia seeds will take root and sprout, and you can remove the plastic film to increase air circulation. The newly sprouted seeds are fragile and cannot be exposed to the sun. They need to be shaded and protected. They can be exposed to sunlight after they have adapted to the environment.

3. Transplanting and planting

When the petunia seeds grow three or four seedlings, they can be transplanted and planted. Ensure the environment is warm and place them on the balcony for maintenance, ensuring scattered sunlight. Petunia is not tolerant to waterlogging, so generally wait until the soil becomes dry before watering to ensure alternation between dry and wet. Pay attention to fertilization and nutrient supplementation during the growing period.
