When is the best time to sow white radish seeds?

Radish seed sowing time

Now white radish can be sown all year round, but the sowing time varies in different planting locations. In Hunan area, it is generally planted from September to November in the autumn and winter. The yield and quality of radishes planted at this time are very good, but if planted too late, they will be frostbitten, or the radishes will become hollow.

Other regions, like Wuhan, generally sow in spring in March and April, and in North China in July and August, so you should choose the planting time according to different regions. Note that if the ambient temperature is low, it will affect the germination of the seeds, and you need to take measures to keep warm.

White radish seed planting method and steps

1. Land preparation

White radishes generally grow deeper, so it is best to plant them in areas with deep, loose soil and good drainage. This way the radishes will grow faster underground without any resistance. Deeply plow the soil in advance and add an appropriate amount of base fertilizer, usually phosphate fertilizer, livestock manure or organic fertilizer.

2. Planting

The general way to sow white radish is direct seeding. Sprinkle its seeds evenly into the ditch, and then cover them with a little soil to cover the seeds. In about a week, most of the seeds will grow sprouts. At this time, you can water them once and apply some urea to promote the growth of seedlings.

3. Thinning

After the white radish seedlings grow out, you can thin them out and pull out the weaker seedlings. If there are densely growing seedlings, you can pull out a few of them to prevent them from affecting each other's growth and to increase ventilation.

4. Maintenance

White radish likes a humid environment and needs to be watered in time. The soil should not be too dry. However, during the rainy season, watering should be controlled. If there is water accumulation in the soil, it should be drained in time and the ventilation of the environment should be strengthened. When the plant grows to a certain size, it can be pulled out of the soil and preserved.
