What are the cultivation methods and precautions of rice bamboo?

Growth habits of bamboo

Rice bamboo is a typical southern plant that likes a warm and humid growing environment. The average growth temperature should be maintained between 12℃ and 22℃. In winter, it should be placed in a warm room with the room temperature kept above 10℃, so that it will not shed leaves and remain green all year round.

Rice bamboo cultivation method

Soil: Rice bamboo is more suitable for living in slightly acidic soil. When preparing the potting soil, mix leaf mold and garden soil. You can also add some organic fertilizer to it to increase the nutrients in the soil, which can provide the rice bamboo with sufficient nutrients for its healthy growth.

Light: Although the rice bamboo prefers sunlight, you should also be careful to avoid direct exposure to strong sunlight in summer to prevent the leaves from being burned by the sun. Just place it in a cool and ventilated place with scattered sunlight.

Watering: It does not require frequent watering to maintain rice bamboo. In spring and autumn, watering once every 3 days is enough. In summer, the temperature is high and the water in the soil is lost too quickly, so watering is needed every day to ensure the moistness of the soil. In winter, water control is needed, and watering once every 10 days is enough.

Fertilization: You don’t need to apply too much fertilizer. It is sufficient to apply fertilizer once a month in spring and autumn. No fertilizer is needed in summer and winter to avoid fertilizer damage caused by excessive temperature differences.

Precautions for rice bamboo cultivation

Don’t choose a deep pot: The roots of the rice bamboo are very shallow, so don’t choose a deep pot when caring for the rice bamboo, otherwise it may cause root rot.

Keep warm: Pay attention to keeping warm in winter. Too low temperature in winter may cause frost damage to bamboo and affect its growth, so keeping warm in winter is very important.
