Can cactus be grown hydroponically?

Cactus can be grown in water, but most of the cactus potted plants we see in life are grown in soil, because loose and breathable soil can provide oxygen and nutrients to the cactus, ensuring the healthy growth of the root system. Nowadays, hydroponic cacti are gradually appearing on the market, which are cleaner and more suitable for indoor viewing.

Methods and key points of hydroponic cultivation of cactus

1. Choose the parent

First, you need to choose a strong and large cactus, cut off the roots of the cactus, rinse off the soil attached to the rhizome with clean water, dry it for a few days, and then disinfect it.

2. Container

Prepare a glass bottle or mineral water bottle of appropriate size, because the transparent container makes it easy to observe the water amount and the growth of the roots and rhizomes. Fix the selected and processed cactus at the mouth of the bottle with foam, and add an appropriate amount of nutrient solution to the water so that the nutrient solution can just touch the roots of the cactus.

Precautions for growing cactus in water

1. Buy two small magnets and put them in glass bottles respectively. The purpose is to magnetize the nutrient solution, thereby accelerating the growth of the roots of the water-grown cactus.

2. Place the cultivated cactus in a lighted environment and keep the temperature above 21°C. Replace the nutrient solution immediately after water roots appear, otherwise its root growth will be restricted.

3. How often to change the water: change the water once a week when the weather is hot, and once every 15 days or so when the weather is cold. When changing the water, add nutrient solution and clean the container. Also, never spray water on the cactus during the rooting process.
