How to prune lotus leaves? Methods and precautions for pruning leaves

Lotus flower pruning time

Bowl lotus likes a warm and humid environment and is usually pruned in spring and autumn, specifically around March-April or September-October. The temperature at this time is neither high nor low, which causes little damage to the bowl lotus and is conducive to its later recovery. If it is maintained indoors, it can be done all year round if the temperature is suitable.

Bowl lotus pruning methods and steps

1. Remove excess side buds: During the growth and maintenance of the bowl lotus, it is necessary to observe whether there are excess side buds and cut off the extra side buds at the bottom, otherwise the living space will be relatively small. If there are too many side buds, more nutrients will be consumed, resulting in insufficient nutrients and the growth of the entire bowl lotus will become poor.

2. Prune yellow and dead leaves: There are yellow and rotten leaves on the water lily plant, which need to be cut off in time. If they continue to remain on the water surface, they will slowly rot, affecting the water quality, causing the water to be turbid and unclean, and the growth of the entire water lily will also be affected.

3. Topping to control height: The space at home is limited, and if the branches of the water lily grow too high, they will take up space. It is necessary to top the branches that are too long to control the height of the plant.

Notes on pruning lotus

The bowl lotus is relatively weak after pruning, so it should be supplemented with nutrients in time. You can sprinkle a bag of bone meal in the soil, or bury rotten fruit peels in the soil to add nutrients to the plant. It cannot be exposed to the sun right after pruning. You should wait for it to cool in a cool place for a few days before you can cultivate it normally.
