Snake gourd planting time and method

Snake gourd planting time

Snake gourd likes to grow in a warm environment, and the suitable growth temperature is between 20-35 degrees, so the best time to plant it is in spring.

Generally, the sowing time in the northern region can be selected in early to mid-April, while the temperature in the southern region is higher, so the sowing time can be advanced to around March. The climatic conditions in different places are different, so the planting time is also different. The time should be chosen according to the actual situation.

Snake gourd planting method

1. Prepare the soil

If you choose to plant after raising seedlings, you must choose the right substrate for the seedlings. You can mix perlite and peat soil, which can ensure good nutrition and have a transparent effect.

2. Sowing and seedling raising

The seed shell of snake gourd is relatively thick, and it is difficult for water to penetrate into it, so the germination speed after sowing is slow. In order to increase the germination speed, before sowing, take out the seeds and let them air for about 4-6 hours. Prepare 55℃ warm water, put the seeds in and stir, continue to soak them in clean water after the water temperature drops, then wrap them with gauze and put them in a warm place to germinate.

3. Sowing

The seeds can be sown directly without transplanting. Just prepare the soil and sow them. Or you can pay attention to management after sowing. When the seedlings grow 2-3 true leaves, transplant them and do a good job of field management.

Precautions for planting snake gourd

After sowing snake gourd, if the ambient temperature is low, it is necessary to cover the ground with mulch to keep warm and moisturize. When the temperature rises, the mulch should be lifted. In addition, the soil should be kept moist during planting, but water accumulation should be avoided, otherwise it will cause root rot.
