How to grow beets

How to grow beets

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: Beet prefers a cooler growing environment and the temperature cannot be too high. Its cold resistance is relatively optimistic. The suitable temperature for growth is between 15 and 25 degrees, and the night temperature should be kept at around 20 degrees. Beet seedlings can tolerate temperatures down to -5 degrees Celsius for a short period of time.

2. Watering: The branches and leaves of beets are relatively large, and water evaporates faster during the summer growth period, so it is necessary to water the plants frequently to allow them to grow quickly. However, watering should be reduced or not done half a month before harvest. The specific amount of watering needs to be determined based on the growth conditions of the plants and changes in the soil.

3. Light: Beet needs sufficient light to grow. It will grow well under sufficient light conditions and needs about ten hours of light a day, but not more than fifteen hours. Light will allow beets to accumulate enough sugar. If there is not enough light, nitrogen will be produced, which will affect the edibleness of the final fruit.

4. Fertilization: Before planting, sufficient base fertilizer needs to be applied. Fertilizer is conducive to the growth of seedlings. Seed fertilizer is mainly phosphorus fertilizer. Next, topdressing should be done in June each year, mainly nitrogen fertilizer, and urea can be applied.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: Sowing is the main method of reproduction. The seeds need to be soaked in liquid medicine before sowing. They can be sown after soaking for 24 hours. The temperature needs to be above five degrees. The sowing depth should be consistent, about three to five centimeters. It should not be too deep, otherwise it will be difficult to germinate or it will be slow to emerge from the soil.

2. Pruning: No pruning is required, because beets are ultimately harvested for their stems, and the branches and leaves of beets do not have much use. However, when beets are infested with diseases and pests, they will show up on the branches and leaves, and you need to pay attention to it.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Diseases: Brown spot disease may occur during the rainy season, which can be controlled by diluting thiophanate-methyl solution.

2. Pests: Flea beetles appear in the summer and can be controlled by spraying pesticides.

IV. Other issues

1. Toxicity: It is not toxic. Beet is the raw material of sugar and is very suitable for large-scale farming.

2. Can it be raised at home?: Not suitable. Farms and fields are the most suitable places for breeding.
