Dwarf sunflower planting time and method

Dwarf sunflower planting time

Dwarf sunflowers prefer a warm growing environment, and the suitable germination temperature is between 15-22 degrees. Therefore, based on its habits, the best planting time is from March to August. Otherwise, if the temperature is not suitable, it will be difficult to germinate and grow vigorously after planting.

How to grow dwarf sunflowers

1. Prepare the soil

Dwarf sunflowers have a wide adaptability to soil, but it is best to use loose, breathable, well-drained and fertile soil to plant it, which is beneficial to its growth and development. We can use a mixture of garden soil and mushroom soil, and we can also mix an appropriate amount of base fertilizer into the soil, which can improve the fertility of the soil.

2. Planting method

The seeds of dwarf sunflower do not need to be processed and can be directly sown into the soil and covered with a thin layer of soil. After sowing, water them thoroughly to keep the soil slightly moist. Note that the seeds are not light-resistant when germinating, so the seeds must be completely covered when covering with soil.

Things to note when growing dwarf sunflowers

After the dwarf sunflower seedlings emerge, they need to be well cared for and managed. At this time, they should be gradually exposed to light, because they are sun-loving plants, and sufficient light is conducive to their vigorous growth. During the vigorous growth period of the plant, thin fertilizers need to be applied regularly. They will bloom about 70 days after sowing.

Dwarf sunflowers will be susceptible to diseases and pests during their growth period. Common diseases are powdery mildew and black spot. You can trim the diseased leaves and spray thiophanate-methyl and thiophanate-methyl for prevention and control. The main insect pests are blind bugs and red spiders, which can generally be controlled by spraying omethoate emulsifiable concentrate.
