Sweet corn is usually planted from March to May, but its planting time is later than ordinary corn because its germination ability is relatively low and it has high requirements for low temperatures. Generally, its seeds will take root and germinate only when the temperature is above 12 degrees, so it is about 7-10 days later than ordinary corn.

Sweet corn planting method

1. Land preparation and fertilization: Sweet corn needs fine land preparation before sowing, because its seeds are relatively small. If the soil particles are relatively large, it will affect its development, so the soil should be deeply plowed and sufficient base fertilizer should be applied.

2. Sowing: When sowing sweet corn seeds, a reasonable density is required. Generally speaking, the density of early-maturing varieties can be appropriately larger, while late-maturing varieties need to be sparser. After sowing, the ground needs to be covered with film.

3. Seedling care: After the sweet corn seedlings emerge, they need to be supplemented in time. Then, when they grow 3-4 leaves, they need to be thinned out. When they grow 4-5 leaves, they can be transplanted.

Sweet corn planting precautions

When planting sweet corn, you must be careful to avoid hot periods as this will hinder the growth of seeds. You must also choose seeds of better varieties, otherwise it will affect its yield. During normal growth, it needs a good moisture environment.
