Tea flower pruning time

Tea flowers mostly bloom in spring every year, and the flowering period lasts for 1-2 months. Around May is the best time for major pruning. During the seedling stage or the growing period, targeted pruning can be carried out according to the growth conditions. Timely pruning can promote new branches, increase plant vitality, make the shape and crown beautiful, and enhance the ornamental value.

Tea flower pruning method

1. Thinning branches

The growth rate of tea flowers is relatively fast, and the dense growth of branches and leaves affects the ventilation and light transmission inside the plant. Timely thinning should be carried out to cut off all dense branches and crossed branches. At the same time, check for dead and diseased branches and cut them off to avoid further deterioration.

2. Picking buds

In order to promote the vigorous flowering of tea flowers, it is usually necessary to pick the buds after they appear. For thin branches, you can leave fewer or no buds, but for thick branches, you can leave a few more. In addition, the buds should be thinned evenly, and do not pick only one side.

3. Plastic surgery

Timely pruning of tea flowers can promote growth and flowering, and also increase its ornamental value. For some more upright varieties, the upper part of the plant can be shortened. For slow-growing plants, it is necessary to cut off the long branches to make the branches of uniform length. For varieties with larger crowns, it is necessary to trim the crown width.
