Rose cutting time and method

Rose cutting time

Roses prefer a warm environment and are suitable for cuttings in spring and autumn. When cutting in spring, choose to do it in early spring. If the cuttings are done after the temperature rises, the side buds of the cuttings will grow before the roots. After the root growth slows down, there is no way to provide water to the new leaves. The success rate of cuttings in late autumn and early winter is higher than in spring.

Rose cutting method

1. Prepare the soil

Roses grow best in loose, fertile, acidic soil. Prepare leaf mold, garden soil, and vermiculite, mix them evenly in a ratio of 5:3:2, and add 5 grains of nitrogen fertilizer as the culture soil.

2. Choose cuttings

Select sturdy branches without diseases and insect pests, containing at least 3-4 bracts, cut off the leaves of the branches, leaving 2-3 leaves, cut the bottom of the branches into oblique cuts with a sterilized knife, soak them in rooting water for 5 hours, take them out and place them in a cool and ventilated place to dry.

3. Cuttings

Fill the prepared flowerpot with culture soil and use a wooden stick to poke a few holes, 3-4 cm apart and about 4-5 cm deep. Insert the rose branches into the soil, compact the surrounding soil, and water to keep the soil moist.

Rose cutting maintenance

After the rose is cut, it can be placed in a well-ventilated and cool place to avoid exposure to strong light. After about a week, it can be placed in a sunny place. When it is exposed to light, it can be sprayed with water appropriately to keep the environment moist.
