Rose cutting time and method

Rose cutting time and method

Rose cutting time

It is best to carry out rose cuttings in May every year. At this time, the temperature is suitable, the branches are relatively active, and the growth ability is strong, which is very suitable for softwood cuttings. If it is hard branch cuttings, you can do it during the dormant period to germination. One thing to note is to avoid cutting in high temperature and high humidity weather, otherwise it will affect the success rate.

Rose cutting method

1. Choose branches

Select the vigorously growing woody branches on the rose plant, cut them off from the mother plant, leaving a length of about 10-15 cm, remove all the leaves at the bottom, retain 3-4 branch buds, and cut the lower end of the branch into an oblique incision to facilitate its contact with the soil and speed up rooting.

2. Prepare the potting soil

For rose cuttings, use loose, fertile, air-permeable and well-drained acidic soil. It is best to mix humus soil and garden soil in a 1:1 ratio. A small amount of river sand can be added to increase drainage. There is no need to use substrate fertilizer at the bottom of the potting soil to avoid adverse effects on the plants.

3. Take cuttings

Use chopsticks to insert a hole about 5 cm deep in the prepared soil in advance, insert the processed branches into the hole, use a wooden stick as support next to it, tie the branches and wooden sticks together, compact the surrounding soil, seal it with plastic film, water it, and place it in a ventilated location for cultivation.

Maintenance of rose cuttings

After rose cuttings, it is suitable to grow in an environment with a temperature of 23-27 degrees Celsius. It should not be too high or too low to avoid affecting the normal growth of its roots. After cuttings, the rose can be watered according to the dryness and wetness of the soil. When the soil is too dry, it needs to be watered in time. Do not water too much, otherwise the roots will easily rot.
