Time and method of cuttings of Hibiscus truncatum

Time for cutting of small hibiscus

You should choose the right time to propagate hibiscus by cuttings. It is best to do it in spring when the temperature is stable at around 25 degrees, which is neither high nor low, making it very suitable for propagation. The survival rate is relatively high. Propagation by cuttings can also be done in other seasons, but you must maintain a good temperature and a suitable environment.

How to propagate small hibiscus

1. Prepare the substrate

There are no requirements for the soil for hibiscus cuttings. You can use nutrient soil or peat soil, or you can use clean pure sand. Just keep it loose, breathable, and well-drained. Do not use the soil directly after it is prepared. Expose it to the sun for disinfection in advance.

2. Choose cuttings

From a vigorously growing small hibiscus plant, cut 10-18 cm thick, disease-free branches, remove some leaves, retain 2-3 leaves on the top, cut off 1/3 with scissors, trim the bottom of the cutting into an oblique cut with a knife, let it dry and wait for cuttings.

3. Cuttings

Prepare suitable flower pots, clay pots and ceramic pots are best, fill the pots with culture soil and smooth the soil, use a wooden stick to poke a few holes in the culture soil, insert the small hibiscus cuttings into the holes, about 1/3 of the branches, then compact the surrounding soil and water appropriately to keep the soil moist.

Maintenance of small hibiscus after cutting

After the small hibiscus is cut, you need to pay attention to the maintenance method. If the surrounding temperature is low, you can cover it with a layer of film to keep it warm and moisturized, and then place it in a well-ventilated place. It will take root in about 2-3 weeks.
