How to prepare soil for planting yew and what soil to use

Soil requirements for yew

Yew trees prefer soil with good drainage and air permeability. When planting, mainly use sandy soil, which is not easy to accumulate water. However, you cannot use all sandy soil. It must be combined with other soils. If only sandy soil is used, the fertilizer retention effect is poor, which is not conducive to the later growth of the plant.

Soil preparation method for yew

1. Perlite + peat + sandy soil

Yew likes loose and breathable soil, so you can choose sandy soil containing humus, or you can mix perlite, peat and sand in a ratio of 3:2:1. The soil prepared in this way has good air permeability and drainage.

2. Sludge + coal slag

The soil for planting yew can also be prepared by mixing silt from mud ponds and coal slag in a ratio of 2:1. Such soil contains more humus and has better air permeability, which is suitable for the growth of yew.

Steps for changing soil for yew

1. Cut off water and remove from pot: The yew tree needs to be cut off from water before changing the soil, and then removed from the pot when the soil is slightly dry, which can avoid damaging the root system of the yew tree during the move.

2. Remove the topsoil: Take the yew out of the pot, gently remove the soil around the soil lump, do not move the soil between the roots of the yew, keep the heart soil for transplanting, compact the soil after changing the soil, and water it thoroughly.

3. Maintenance and management: After the soil of the yew tree has just been changed, it needs to be placed in a place with diffused light and good ventilation to slow down the growth of the seedlings. After a week, the light can be gradually increased. The dryness and wetness of the soil should be observed regularly. If the soil is completely dry, water it thoroughly.
