Taro planting timeTaro likes to grow in a warm and humid environment, and can only germinate when the temperature is above 13-15℃. Therefore, you can choose to start planting around early to mid-March. If it is cultivated under plastic film, you can plant it as early as February. Taro harvest timeThe harvest time of taro is related to the planting area and variety. Early-maturing varieties sown early in the Yangtze River Basin are generally harvested from September to October, late-maturing varieties can be harvested from the end of September to the end of October, and medium- and late-maturing varieties can be harvested from the end of September to early November. Key points for high-yield taro cultivation1. Land preparation and fertilization Taro is not very demanding on the soil, but it is best to provide fertile, deep, and water-retaining clay soil. After land preparation, dig trenches with a row spacing of 80-100 cm, a width of 50 cm, and a depth of 35 cm. When planting, apply enough base fertilizer and apply it in the trenches according to the row spacing. 2. Sowing method Select disease-free, plump seed taro, dry them in the sun for 3-4 days, then arrange them densely indoors, and then cover them with 8-10 cm thick wet sand for germination. Maintain the temperature at around 20 degrees. Wait for 20-30 days for the buds to grow to 3-4 cm. When the ground temperature at 5 cm is stable at 10℃, plant them at a spacing of 33-40 cm. 3. Watering management There is no need to water the taro before it sprouts, but it needs to be watered frequently in the middle and late stages, and the water should be drained in time during the rainy season. The soil for planting taro should not be too dry. In case of drought, yellow leaves and withered leaves will appear. About 80 days after the seedlings sprout, fertilizer can be applied around the plants in combination with watering. |
