What fertilizer is good for pepper? How to apply fertilizer and manage it

The role of pepper base fertilizer

Applying base fertilizer before planting pepper can ensure the sufficiency of fertilizer supply in the soil, which is conducive to the germination, flowering and fruiting of pepper trees and reduces cost investment. The application time of base fertilizer is divided into autumn and spring. The spring application time is after thawing, and the autumn application time is before and after the pepper trees fall leaves. Generally, autumn application has the best effect.

How to apply pepper base fertilizer

1. Ring fertilization

The method of fertilization is to dig a circular ditch about 30 cm deep around the tree trunk below the crown. At the same time, depending on the age of the tree, the depth of the excavation in the young tree stage can be appropriately deepened. The circular ditch set for large trees is best when it is 30 cm deep to avoid damage to the roots. Mix the fertilizer and soil evenly, apply it into the ditch and cover it with soil.

2. Radial fertilization

This method takes the size of the tree crown into consideration. 6 to 10 trenches are set radially at a distance of 1 meter from the trunk. The length of the trench should reach the outer edge of the crown and the depth should be controlled at about 35 cm to avoid damage to the roots of the tree. At the same time, the fertilizer and soil are mixed evenly, applied into the trench and backfilled with soil. This method of fertilization covers a large area and will not damage the roots of the tree.

How to apply base fertilizer to pepper

The first topdressing is carried out before flowering, mainly with nitrogen fertilizer, in order to supplement nutrition and increase the fruit setting rate; the second topdressing is carried out during the young fruit stage, mainly with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, in order to ensure fruit growth and development; the third topdressing is carried out before flower bud differentiation, mainly with nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers, in order to promote flower bud differentiation.
