When is the best time to plant adzuki beans?

Suitable planting time for adzuki beans

Adzuki beans have weak cold resistance and prefer a warm growing environment. The temperature after sowing must be higher than 8℃, and the suitable germination temperature is around 15-16℃. Therefore, you need to pay attention to the sowing time. It is not advisable to sow too early. Generally, you can choose to sow around May-June each year.

Adzuki bean planting methods and key points

1. Choose the variety

Select varieties with full grains, bright colors and strong disease resistance, remove shriveled and damaged seeds, expose the seeds in the sun for 3 days, then mix the seeds with disinfectant to improve their disease resistance, then place them in a well-ventilated environment and dry them for later use.

2. Land preparation and fertilization

Red beans are not picky about soil, but if you want to increase the yield, it is best to choose sandy soil with good drainage, strong water and fertilizer retention capacity and humus. Level the soil in advance, harrow it, make ridges and press it down, and apply sufficient decomposed farmyard manure and compound fertilizer to supply the nutrients needed for the growth of red beans.

3. Planting method

Sow the processed seeds into the soil with a plant spacing of about 12 cm. The planting depth should not exceed 4 cm. In addition, the sowing density should be controlled to avoid too dense sowing which is detrimental to later growth. After sowing, lightly compact the soil and water it thoroughly.

Key points for adzuki bean management

1. After the adzuki bean seedlings have grown to full size, they must be thinned out in time, usually when the seedlings grow the first true leaf. During this period, the seedlings with good growth should be retained, and the weak seedlings should be removed. Then, before flowering, the soil should be tilled and weeded to prevent weeds from competing for nutrients for the adzuki beans and reducing yields.

2. When adzuki beans enter the initial flowering period, you can use potassium dihydrogen phosphate and other agents as top dressing. Mix the agent with water and spray it on the leaves. Water appropriately according to the soil conditions. Control the amount of watering and do not water too much. Drain water in time during the rainy season to avoid water accumulation and root rot.
