Prevention and treatment of Datura wilt

Prevention and treatment of Datura wilt

Symptoms of Datura wilt

The leaves of infected plants turn yellow between the lateral veins, then gradually turn brown, and die from the leaf margins, while the leaf veins remain green. The leaves gradually turn yellow and wilt from bottom to top, and the vascular bundles appear dark brown when the diseased stems are cross-sectioned. Some plants will be half infected and half healthy, and plants with severe disease will not be able to bear fruit.

Verticillium wilt pathogen

The pathogen of Verticillium wilt is a fungus called Verticillium wilt, which belongs to the subphylum Ascomycota. Mycelium septate, black. The conidiophores are erect and their bases become dark, which is a unique feature of this fungus. Conidia are long and oval. In addition to harming Datura, this fungus can also cause yellow wilt in cotton, potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants, and cucumbers.

Transmission routes and conditions of disease onset

The pathogen can survive in the soil for a long time, overwintering in the form of mycelium in diseased bodies or in the soil. When conditions are right, the bacteria invade the host and spread within its vascular bundles, causing disease. The onset of the disease in Northeast China, Inner Mongolia, Henan and other places is mostly in July.

Prevention and treatment methods

Rotate crops with non-host plants.

Increase awareness of prevention. If necessary, water the soil with 600-700 times diluted 50% methyl thiophanate or carbendazim wettable powder before the disease occurs.

Strengthen cultivation management. Reasonably dense planting, pay attention to ventilation; apply fertilizer with scientific formula, increase the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and improve the disease resistance of plants; irrigate at the right time, drain in time after rain to prevent moisture retention; remove diseased and damaged tissues in the field after harvest to reduce the source of bacteria in the next year.
