What is the suitable temperature for corn planting?

Temperature requirements for corn planting

There are more and more varieties of corn, but the corns planted on a large scale as economic crops are generally sweet corn and glutinous corn. These two types of corn need to be soaked in warm water at about 55°C for 8-12 hours before sowing, and then spread out to dry before sowing. The best planting temperature is 18-20°C.

Corn growing temperature

Corn is a thermophilic short-day crop that requires a relatively high temperature for growth and development. The most suitable temperature for growth is 22-30°C. Too high or too low a temperature will cause the plant to grow slowly. When the temperature reaches 40-45°C, the corn will be in a coma or even die. When the temperature is below 10-12°C, the plant will stop growing.

At the same time, during the planting period, it is also necessary to ensure that the corn has sufficient light during the growth period, 8-10 hours a day is ideal. If necessary, artificial lighting and temperature control can be used. Only the combination of temperature and light conditions can better promote corn growth.

Corn planting time

Corn is grown in all regions of my country. Regional differences will lead to different corn planting times. Since the corn planting temperature is around 20℃, it is generally planted when the temperature is relatively stable.

In the southern region, the corn is sown from late March to early April and is generally mature in July. In North China, spring corn is generally sown from April to May and can be harvested in August. Autumn corn sown around early July will mature and be harvested in October. The temperature in Northeast China rises late in spring and corn is generally sown around the Grain Rain.
