The best time to transplant kiwifruit seedlings

Kiwi fruit is also known as soft date. It is a vine fruit tree. Kiwi fruit not only has delicious fruit, unique flavor, sweet and sour taste, but also has very rich nutritional value. Therefore, the market demand for kiwi fruit is very large. If the kiwi fruit transplanting technology is good, there will be a good yield.

Kiwifruit transplanting time

Generally speaking, it is more suitable to transplant kiwi seedlings in spring, but the transplanting time will vary depending on the planting area.

If you choose to transplant in the north, you need to wait until the soil is completely thawed before planting. If you choose to transplant in the south, you need to decide when to transplant based on weather conditions.

Kiwifruit transplanting technology

1. The trench method

The trenching method is only applicable to gentle slopes such as plains and hills. It is not suitable for mountain transplanting. The trench is generally 1~1.2 meters wide and 0.8~1 meter deep. The length can be determined according to the regional planning. During excavation, the topsoil and subsoil are piled on both sides. After the excavation work is completed, various fertilizers are added in layers. When covering the soil, the topsoil is placed at the bottom of the ditch and the bottom soil is placed in the middle and upper part of the ditch. Then the trench surface is cultivated with soil. The soil pile can be about 10~15 cm above the ground surface. Finally, the planting spacing needs to be re-measured.

2. Digging method

The hole digging method is most suitable for terraced fields in mountainous areas and gardens with temporary labor shortages. The planting holes are generally dug with a diameter of about 1 to 1.5 meters and a depth of about 0.8 to 1 meter. The amount of fertilizer buried and the method of burying fertilizer are basically the same as those of the trenching method. The final covering soil should be about 10 to 15 centimeters above the ground surface and in the shape of a bun.

Management of kiwifruit after transplantation

After kiwifruit is transplanted, the seedlings need to be properly pruned. Generally, it is enough to leave about one full bud. After sprouting, the excess buds need to be removed. You can leave a strong young bud on the scion branch. After the new roots grow, fertilization needs to be carried out again.
