Dragon fruit grafting method (picture) 3 common grafting methods illustrated

Pitaya grafting can increase the absorption capacity and range of pitaya roots, shorten the time of fruit production, and the branches of pitaya after grafting are the same as the branches of pitaya growing from new buds, and can produce fruit in the same year. It can also save seedlings for replacement, and the demand is only a few tens of times that of cutting seedlings.

Dragon fruit grafting time

Except for the low temperature period in winter, grafting can be carried out in spring, summer and autumn. Because winter is cold and humid for a long time, the grafted wounds will not only be unable to heal, but may also expand and endanger the roots of the pitaya. Therefore, the most suitable time for grafting should be March to October.

Dragon fruit grafting technology

1. Flat connection method

Make a horizontal cut at the top of the rootstock, then cut the base of the scion flat, requiring the incision to be smooth and clean, leaving no gap between the rootstock and the scion. Then paste the cut parts together, and finally tie them up with cotton thread or fix them with toothpicks and then tie them tightly with plastic glue.

2. Adjacent method

Cut a 3-5cm scion and cut off the edge of one side of the scion, making sure it is flat. Then place the cut scion close to the rootstock, tie it with a thin wire or fix it with a toothpick, and finally tie it tightly with plastic glue.

3. Plug-in method

Suitable for mature branches, cut 3-5 cm of scion, remove 1 cm of flesh at the bottom, cut the scion into a wedge shape, then insert it into the flesh of the rootstock, and tie it tightly with plastic glue.
