How many days does it take for a carrot to mature? What is the growth process of a carrot?

The growth process of any plant is similar, and carrots are no exception. It starts from seeds, then sprouts, then produces more seedlings, continues to grow, then blooms, and finally dies.

How many days does a carrot grow?

The growth cycle of carrots is about 360 days , depending on the variety, planting method and other factors. The vegetative growth cycle in the first year is about 90-140 days.

Among them, the germination time is about 10-15 days , the seedling stage is 25 days , the peak leaf growth period is about 30 days , the fleshy root growth period is 30-70 days, and the second year is the reproductive growth period of about 120 days.

The growth process of carrots

1. Germination period

The time from sowing to germination is 7 to 10 days . Carrot seeds germinate slowly, with a low germination rate and uneven germination. Therefore, the germination process of carrots generally requires strict conditions.

Keeping the soil fine, loose, breathable, and creating good temperature and humidity conditions are necessary conditions to ensure uniform and complete seedlings. If the conditions are suitable, the germination rate of carrots can reach 70%, while in bad conditions it is only about 20%.

2. Seedling stage

The seedling stage is about 20 days . During this period, the photosynthesis and root absorption capacity are not strong, and the above-ground growth is slow. It is indeed a critical period for underground growth. The length of growth during this period determines the length of the carrot's life. The suitable growth temperature is 23~25℃ .

Carrots are quite sensitive to living conditions. They must be given sufficient nutritional area and fertile and moist soil at all times. They should not be watered too much. The soil should be moistened according to whether it is dry or not to ensure that the soil moisture is appropriate.

There is less air in the soil and the temperature naturally drops, so radishes tend to grow into short, pointed columns. This period is the critical period for thinning out seedlings. We must grasp the opportunity accurately and not miss it.

3. Peak leaf growth period

During this stage, the leaf area continues to expand and the fleshy roots begin to grow slowly , about 25 days . During this period, the leaves grow mainly on the aboveground part, and the fertilizer and water supply should not be too much. Attention should be paid to increasing the nutritional status of foliar fertilizer to prevent the leaves from turning yellow too early, and over-fertilization should not be applied.

4. The peak period of fleshy root growth

This period takes 50-60 days, accounting for about 2/5 of the entire growth period. The leaves continue to grow, the lower old leaves continue to die, and the photosynthetic products are stored in the underground fleshy roots. During this period, it is necessary to strengthen fertilizer and water management, increase potassium fertilizer, create a good temperature and humidity environment, and promote the growth and development of the underground root system.
