What is the best season to plant carrots? When and how to plant carrots

When planting carrots, you should choose land with a deeper soil layer and humus rich in organic matter in sandy soil. It is best to use sandy soil for planting, so that the quality of the carrots grown will be very good.

Carrot Planting Season

Carrots are best planted in spring . They prefer cool climates, with a growth temperature between 15-25 degrees, strong light and relatively dry air conditions, and require a relatively large temperature difference and sufficient and comprehensive nutrients, so as to ensure that they have a relatively high content of carotene and lycopene.

Carrot greenhouse planting is generally from late January to early to mid-February , and harvesting begins in early April. For open field planting, mulch film should be covered, and sowing can be done from mid-to-late March to early April , and harvesting can be done from mid-to-late May to early June.

Carrot planting process

1. Seed treatment

Generally, the seeds are planted by direct seeding , but if you want to increase the germination rate, you can also use the seed soaking method to accelerate germination .

The specific operation is to soak the seeds in cold water for 3-4 hours, drain them and put them in a cotton bag, then place them in a 25℃ environment for germination, keep them moist, and soak them in cold water every 12 hours. When the white rate of seeds reaches 10%-20%, they can be sown.

2. Planting

Draw furrows at the top of the ridge with a row spacing of 15 cm. The depth of the furrows should be 1~2 cm. The order of planting steps should be watering → sowing → covering with soil → covering with straw or hay . The seedling rate in autumn is relatively low, so the sowing amount can be appropriately increased, about 1.2~1.5 kg per mu.

3. Notes

After sowing, sufficient water must be applied. In dry areas with good drainage conditions, water should be applied. The soil should be evenly covered and the seeds should not be exposed. The soil must be kept moist before the seeds germinate. If the weather is dry, water should be applied in the morning or evening.
