Peas are semi-cold-resistant crops. They can survive the winter in the open field in the Yangtze River Basin. They are usually sown in autumn and have a higher yield. They can also be sown in early spring, but can only be sown in spring in northern regions.

Sweet Pea Planting Time

The planting time of sweet peas is generally concentrated from early September to early November each year . The planting time should not be too early, but not too late.

Sweet pea planting methods and tips

1. Variety selection

Some edible fresh pods can be selected for cultivation , and they can be planted in spring and autumn. Generally, the variety of Tianyin No. 6 matures earlier, has stronger cold resistance, is not afraid of drought and flood, and has relatively better output value and survival rate.

2. Choose wintering cultivation technology

Sowing can be done in autumn , and the best sowing period is October-November . Do not sow too early, as the plants will be easily damaged by frost before wintering; do not sow too late, as that will easily affect the yield and reduce the survival rate.

1. Choose soil for planting

It is best to choose sandy or clay soil with good drainage. The pH value of the soil is generally between 5.5 and 6.7. For acidic soil, some lime can be added for comprehensive improvement.

2. Fertilization points

When its seedlings grow to three or four leaves , they need to be fertilized . The main material used is urea. During the subsequent growth of the seedlings, 3-4 additional urea fertilizers can be added based on the actual fertility of the soil.

3. Field management

In order to prevent waterlogging and flooding, drugs can be used for prevention and control, mainly including carbendazim wettable powder, mancozeb wettable powder, daconil wettable powder, diazinon emulsifiable concentrate, avermectin emulsifiable concentrate, carbendazim wettable powder, etc.
