What is the best season to plant ginkgo trees? What is the best month to plant ginkgo trees?

When planting ginkgo trees, it is best to choose fertile, loose, slightly acidic soil with good air permeability and drainage. Such soil is more conducive to the normal growth of ginkgo trees and can also make the ginkgo trees grow and bear fruit faster.

Ginkgo tree planting season

It is best to plant ginkgo trees in autumn . If planted in autumn, it is usually from October to November each year . During this period, the root system of the ginkgo tree seedlings can be well maintained, preparing for its own germination in the spring of the following year.

If planted in spring, as the weather starts to warm up, the branches and trunks of the ginkgo tree will sprout quickly, and the underground root system will not recover well, which is not good for its growth.

Ginkgo tree planting method

1. Prepare seeds

After the ripe ginkgo fruit is peeled off the seed coat, it can be used to plant ginkgo seedlings. When picking fruits, it is best to pick full and large ones, which are easy to germinate, and the seedlings will grow strong and will be much easier to raise later.

Although some ginkgo nuts have ripened and fallen off, they are actually empty inside and have no kernels, so they will not germinate after being planted. Peel off the skin of the ginkgo nuts you have picked up and put them in the sun to dry for later use.

2. Planting

After the ginkgo nuts have been dried, they can be sown. When sowing, choose a smaller flower pot and plant them in loose and breathable soil . When sowing ginkgo nuts, the pointed end should face down and the round end should face up, and cover them with about 2 cm of soil.

After planting the ginkgo nuts, water them thoroughly and place them in a warm place to wait for them to germinate. If you want the ginkgo nuts to germinate faster, you can soak the seeds for about 72 hours, change the water 2 to 3 times, and wait for the seeds to germinate before planting. In this way, the seedlings will break through the soil in about 3 days.

3. Maintenance

If the seeds of ginkgo nut are planted directly without being soaked in water , it will take about 20 days for them to germinate . If they are soaked in water, they will emerge in about 3 to 5 days .

Place the newly unearthed ginkgo seedlings in a semi-shaded place for maintenance, do not fertilize, keep the pot soil moist when dry, and wait for it to grow. Do not rush to transplant this small ginkgo seedling, as its root system is still very tender at this time, and transplanting will easily lose the tender roots, affecting subsequent growth.
