How to grow orchids well, planting materials and maintenance points

1. Lighting

The large orchid prefers a semi-shaded environment and cannot tolerate strong light. It should be placed in a place with diffuse light and exposed to more diffuse light. This way the plant can accumulate more nutrients, which is beneficial to growth and flowering. The sunlight in summer is too strong, so you must avoid it in time or cover it with a shade net, otherwise you will easily get sunburned.

2. Planting Materials

The planting material should be loose, breathable, well-drained and rich in fertility. You can mix it yourself with leaf mold and granular soil. Be careful not to use materials that are too sticky, as they will hinder breathing and easily cause root rot. If you find it troublesome, you can go to a flower shop and buy special planting materials for orchids, which will save you the trouble.

3. Temperature

It likes a warm environment and cannot tolerate high or low temperatures. Therefore, you must pay attention to the temperature when maintaining it. The suitable temperature for its growth is between 15 and 25 degrees. During the high temperatures in summer, it should be placed in a ventilated and cool place, and watered frequently to cool it down. When the temperature drops in winter, move it indoors as soon as possible and control the temperature. The minimum temperature should be above 10 degrees to avoid frostbite.

4. Watering

During the growing period, the soil can be kept moist, watered and sprayed frequently, but be careful not to allow waterlogging. As the temperature drops in autumn and winter, reduce the frequency of watering. Generally, watering once a week is enough. In addition, pay attention to water control during the flowering period, and do not water unless the soil is dry. The flowers cannot be exposed to water, otherwise they will fall off.
