How to propagate yew by cuttings

How to propagate yew

Yew can be propagated by sowing, but this method of propagation is relatively slow and the growth cycle of yew will become very long. Therefore, when propagating yew, in order to cultivate a yew plant more quickly, we often choose the cutting method to propagate yew.

Method of propagation of yew by cuttings

We usually choose to carry out cutting propagation of yew between May and June of the year. We first need to choose a 1-4 year old yew, cut a section of about ten centimeters of woody branches, remove about two-thirds of the leaves at the lower end, and soak the cut end of the branch in a solution prepared with rooting powder for about three to twelve hours. The soil for cultivating yew should be rough soil such as sandy soil and perlite. Plant the processed yew cuttings into the cutting soil, and then cover them with plastic cloth or other things. Be careful not to expose them to strong light. Spray water two to three times a day. After a month, you can reduce watering to once a day. The soil temperature should be kept at 20~30°C. Generally, it will take root in thirty to forty days. At this time, we can apply a little fertilizer to promote the growth of yew seedlings. After the seedlings have taken root, they can be transplanted into ordinary soil for planting.
