How to water orchids in March

March is the time when spring comes and flowers bloom. The weather is getting warmer day by day, and the monthly average temperature is around 8~9°C, but you should still be careful to prevent cold waves. Therefore, after entering March, you should be especially careful when watering orchids and pay attention to the following five points.

First of all, when the temperature gradually rises to around 10℃ in spring, care should be taken not to let the planting material become too dry.

Because spring is the time when orchids sprout leaves and begin to grow vigorously. During this period, the most taboo is that the planting material is too dry, which causes the roots to lack water and become shriveled.

However, you should not water too much or too frequently. You should adapt the growth of the orchid, the material of the planting material used, weather changes, etc., and provide appropriate watering.

Secondly, from March to mid-April, the temperature is still cold, so you need to pay attention to prevent late spring cold. The potted orchid should not be moved outdoors too early to avoid cold waves and cold damage .

The flower stalks of orchids that have already bloomed should be cut off in time to reduce excessive consumption of nutrients; orchids generally have a period of seedling growth after the flowers have faded, during which time you can add water appropriately, but avoid watering the roots with too much water; it is better to return to normal watering 7 to 10 days after the flowers have faded.

Third, since the temperature is still relatively low, the water temperature should be close to the air temperature to avoid damaging the roots and seedlings after watering the orchid with cold water.

If you use tap water to water orchids, you should put it in a basin or bucket in advance and leave it in the orchid room for 3 to 5 days. When the water temperature is close to the orchid room temperature, it is more appropriate to use it to water orchids. Do not use well water or tap water to water orchids directly .

Again, do not water or spray the orchids arbitrarily, and be careful to spray less "watering heads" to prevent the leaves from getting watered and then not drying up, causing the core to rot. When watering, water should flow along the edge of the orchid pot, and try not to water the orchid leaves.

If there is moisture in the center of the leaves, you should turn on the fan to dry them in time.

In March, the best time to water orchids is around eight, nine or ten o'clock in the morning. Do not water them in the afternoon.

It is better to keep the planting material slightly moist and not dry, and adhere to the principle of "don't water unless the planting material is dry". The sign of dryness is when the surface of the pot turns white and you can water it when you find that the planting material is dry 2 to 3 cm deep by touching the bottom of the planting material with your hand. This is the best time to water it.

Finally, don’t water orchids on cloudy or rainy days. Because the air humidity is high on rainy days, the orchid potting material is prone to moisture. It is not recommended to water the orchid too much at this time to prevent water accumulation and root rot. It is not too late to add water after the weather clears up.

From late March to after the Qingming Festival in April, it is the time for orchid lovers to divide orchids and repot them. Even if old plants are divided, they can quickly sprout leaves, so watering should be determined according to the condition of the seedlings. For orchids planted with granular planting materials, water should be added in time and not kept dry.
