Why don't rose cuttings take root (why don't rose potted plants take root)

Roses are very easy to propagate. As long as the conditions are right, they will basically take root and grow well. It is also very simple to plant roses in water. Why don't the roses you plant take root? From the pictures, we can see several problems. Let's analyze them together.

It is best to leave 2 buds for rose cuttings

When cutting roses, the best number of buds to keep is 2. Why do we do this? In fact, there is a reason. Many nurseries do this when they do a large number of cutting roses.

Choose healthy rose branches, preferably those that have bloomed. Those without woody tips cannot be used, as their survival rate is almost zero.

Choose the woody ones, cut off the two buds, pull off the bottom leaf, bury the bud in the soil, and leave the two leaves on top. This way, the bud buried in the soil will easily take root and the survival rate will also increase.

If there are too many buds, for example, more than 5 buds, and the branches are too long, the nutrients stored in the branches are sufficient. It will take a long time for the branches to take root. If there is a lack of water one day, they will die immediately. This is the first reason why your cuttings do not take root.

There are many details to pay attention to when hydroponically growing roses

Hydroponic roses are also known as water-planted roses. Everyone thinks that this way of propagating roses is very simple. Just cut a branch and throw it directly into the water, and it will grow into an independent plant.

In fact, this is not the case. If you want hydroponic roses to take root quickly, in addition to soaking them in rooting agents before water insertion, we also need to disinfect the cross-section. You can soak them in a solution of carbendazim or meconium-methyl. After sterilization, the cross-section can be prevented from being infected, and the survival rate will be higher.

In addition, although rose cuttings need to be kept moisturized and not exposed to direct sunlight, otherwise the branches will dry out and the cuttings will fail, they still need to be given some light during cuttings. They can be placed in a ventilated, cool place with scattered light, but not exposed to direct sunlight, so that the roses can take root faster.

The rooting time has not arrived or there is a problem with the branches

Hydroponic roses will not take root as soon as they are put into water. The fastest time for the roses I grow from cuttings is 10 days. Some of them can only grow proliferative tissue but no roots in 10 days .

The longest time is 3 months , and the branches are about the same length as yours. Because the cuttings are too long, the rooting is very slow. The stems remain bright green all the time, but they don't take root or grow leaves.

A few days ago, I dug it open and saw that there was already growth tissue underneath, but the roots had not grown yet. The other one had already grown leaves. So, if there is no rooting, it may be that the time has not come yet.

If there is a problem with the branches, rooting will be slow or even die directly. When we do cuttings, we usually choose branches with no leaves growing from the buds, full buds, bright green stems, no insect eyes, and healthy leaves, so that the survival rate of cuttings is high.

If hydroponics does not take root, you can try another method of cuttings.

If the hydroponic rose does not take root, I suggest you try a different method. Cut the branches into small sections with two buds, soak them in rooting agent, and then cut them into sand or coconut coir with perlite. Spray the leaves with water when you have nothing to do, and roots will grow soon.
