How to plant chive seeds

How to plant chive seeds

Chive seeds are generally harvested in autumn. After the chives grow, remove their flower buds and place them in a sunny place to dry. After drying, the chive seeds will fall off.

It is best to store the harvested chive seeds in a ventilated and dry place. When the temperature reaches above 15 degrees, select the chive seeds with full grains and start planting.

Chive seeds sowing time

The sowing time for chive seeds is generally in March-April or September-October each year, and in the southern regions with better climates, they can be sown in autumn and winter.

How to grow chive seeds

1. Variety selection: When planting chives, you should select seeds with full grains, and also choose different varieties according to seasonal changes. For summer sowing, it is advisable to choose varieties with strong heat resistance, while for autumn and winter sowing, it is recommended to choose varieties with strong cold resistance.

2. Land preparation and sowing: For planting chives, choose a place with convenient irrigation and drainage and fertile soil. Apply enough base fertilizer during the land preparation process, and then arrange the land into flat beds with a bed width of 2 meters, a ditch width of 30 centimeters, and a ditch depth of about 30 centimeters. Then sprinkle the chive seeds evenly on the bed surface and cover with a 2-centimeter-thick layer of fine soil. After planting, water it once to moisten the soil.
