Cultivation methods and precautions of large-leaf begonia

The big-leaf begonia itself is not a difficult flower plant to grow. The reason why many people cannot grow it well is generally because of problems with the use of soil, or because of improper pot selection and inappropriate light exposure. If you master the correct maintenance methods, then the big-leaf begonia can easily bloom many healthy and beautiful flowers.

How to grow large-leaf begonia

1. Soil

Bigleaf Begonia is a flower plant that likes fertile, loose soil with good air permeability and drainage, so we must also prepare such soil when cultivating it. It is best if the soil contains enough humus. We can mix river sand, leaf mold and snake wood chips in a ratio of 4:3:3, which is very beneficial to its healthy growth.

2. Lighting

When growing large-leaf begonias, you need to place them in an environment with sufficient light and ensure that they receive more than 8 hours of light. In the summer, you need to provide appropriate shading, and in the winter, you need to get more sun than usual.

3. Temperature

The big-leaf begonia needs a growth temperature between 18-20℃, so appropriate cooling is required in midsummer; after late autumn, the plant should be placed indoors to keep warm; in winter, anti-cold measures need to be taken.

4. Watering

Big-leaf begonia is more suitable for a humid growing environment. Generally speaking, in summer, it needs to be watered every two days, and water mist should be sprayed around the plant to increase the air humidity around it.

Precautions for caring for large-leaf begonias

1. Pruning

In spring and autumn, we should do some proper pruning on the big-leaf crabapple, cutting off the branches that are too long and too dense. This can reduce unnecessary nutrient consumption and promote the healthy growth of the plant.

2. Repotting

The big-leaf begonia needs to be repotted once a year, usually in spring. Try to choose a larger pot and cut off the rotten roots. Be careful not to water it immediately after repotting. Wait until the plant has adapted to the pot and then water it slowly.
