Planting technology and management of small pumpkin

It is actually not difficult to grow small pumpkins. You just need to choose the planting time, location and soil. Pay attention to watering during maintenance and maintain appropriate moisture. Also pay attention to fertilization, weeding, and pest control, then you can grow round, high-quality small pumpkins.

Small pumpkin planting technology

1. Planting time

Small pumpkins are suitable for harvesting in spring and autumn, so they should be planted in advance. If they are harvested in spring, you can choose to start planting in December or January. If they are harvested in autumn, you can choose to start planting around July.

2. Seed treatment

Before planting small pumpkins, you can soak the seeds in warm water at about 60 degrees for about 15 minutes, wash them, take them out and soak them in warm water at about 30 degrees for six hours.

3. Seedling cultivation

Seeds germinate best at temperatures between 28-32 degrees. If the planting amount is relatively small, you can sow them directly, but direct seeding will result in slower growth and a lower survival rate.

4. Land preparation and fertilization

Before planting small pumpkins, you must first prepare the land, clean up the weeds and debris in the ground, and deep plow the land, so as to increase the yield per mu and the quality.

Pumpkin Management Methods

1. Scientific colonization

The small pumpkins can be transplanted about a week after they emerge. Be sure to keep the planting distance at 80cm and plant 2 rows per ridge to ensure better growth.

2. Build a frame and hang vines

When the small pumpkin seedlings grow to about 40 cm, you can build a trellis and hang the vines. Pay attention to let the vines grow evenly so that its photosynthesis will be better.

3. Pest and disease control

Common diseases of small pumpkins include powdery mildew, viral disease, etc. You can use methyl thiophanate for spraying prevention and control, spray once every 7 days, and spray three times in a row.
