How often should I water my cactus? Watering method and time

How often should you water a cactus?

The amount of water required by cactus varies in different growing environments. Usually, the water requirement is the highest from April to September, and it needs to be watered every 20 days or so. The number of waterings can be increased appropriately in spring, and it is generally appropriate to water it once a week or so. If it grows vigorously, it generally needs to be watered once every 3-5 days.

How to water a cactus

1. When watering it, just pour it directly into the potting soil. Never water it on its growing point, because if there is water accumulation on it, coupled with poor ventilation or sunlight exposure, it will easily cause damage, such as infection, sunburn, etc.

2. Insert a bamboo stick or toothpick directly into the soil along the edge of the cactus pot, then pull it out and observe whether the toothpick is still moist. If it is dry, it means it is time to water it. If it is moist, then there is no need to water it for the time being.

Overwatering a cactus

Succulent plants such as cacti are afraid of water. If the humidity is too high, some of the roots will rot at best, and all the roots will rot at worst. Therefore, when watering cacti, you must control the appropriate amount.

When growing cacti, if you water them too much, you should first pour out the water that has not seeped down, then dig out some of the soil and fill it with slightly drier soil to absorb the excess water, and then place it in the sun to evaporate some of the water.
