How Wisteria Spends the Winter

How Wisteria Spends the Winter

1. Control the temperature

Wisteria is not cold-resistant, and the temperature in winter is too low, so the first thing to pay attention to is temperature control. The temperature in the evening should be maintained between 5-10 degrees. If it is too low, the plants will be frozen and their growth will be affected next year. However, it cannot be too high, otherwise the plant will wake up prematurely and absorb nutrients, making it unable to bloom normally during the flowering period.

2. Sufficient light

The light in winter is relatively mild, so it should be placed in a sunny place for maintenance. More sunlight can not only increase the temperature, but also allow it to survive the winter more safely. However, if it is windy, you should stay away from the wind when exposed to the sun to avoid being blown away.

3. Control water and stop fertilizer

In winter, when the temperature is low, the plant will stop growing. Very little nutrients are consumed at this time, so do not water too much or too frequently during maintenance. Wait until the soil is dry and white before watering. Do not water if it is not dry to avoid frostbite. In addition, fertilizer can be applied once before winter to improve cold resistance and help survive the winter. But don't apply fertilizer after winter, as the roots will not absorb it and it will easily cause fertilizer damage.

4. Keep warm measures

In addition to temperature control, you can also take measures to keep warm during winter when the temperatures are low. You can cover the plants with straw to prevent frostbite. If it is in the seedling stage, you can also cover the plant with plastic film, but be sure to poke a few small holes for ventilation.
