African violets cultivation methods and precautions

African violets cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil

It requires soil with good drainage and air permeability. If there is no soil that meets the requirements, you can use the most common garden soil, and then mix it with humus and expanded clay.

2. Lighting

It has a relatively large demand for light, especially during the growing season. Except for when the sun is particularly strong and it needs to avoid the sun, it can receive light at other times. During the non-growing season, it is also necessary to ensure that the daily light time is not less than four hours.

3. Temperature

The temperature suitable for its growth is between 18 and 22 degrees. If the temperature in summer exceeds 30 degrees, it will not grow well. The minimum temperature in winter cannot be lower than 10 degrees, otherwise it cannot survive the winter safely.

4. Watering

Its demand for water is not fixed. If the temperature is relatively high, it needs to be watered every other day, and water should be sprayed on the plant to increase the humidity. If the temperature is high, watering it two to three times a week will be enough. In autumn and winter, it will slowly enter a dormant state. At this time, its demand for water will gradually decrease. Therefore, watering should be slowly reduced at this time. It is enough to water it once every ten days or so.

5. Fertilization

The growth rate during the growth period is relatively fast and the demand for nutrients is also relatively large. It should be fertilized once every ten days, and try to use fertilizers with milder effects.

6. Notes

When watering in autumn and winter, you need to control the temperature of the water. The temperature needs to be similar to the maintenance temperature. Otherwise, not only will the purpose of watering fail, but the plants will also be frozen.
