How many days does it take for garlic to sprout?

Garlic is widely distributed in China, and its sowing time is relatively wide. It can be sown in autumn, early winter, spring and other time periods. However, if you want garlic to grow quickly, you must master the germination time. So how many days does it take for garlic to germinate? Let’s take a look with the editor below.

1. How many days does it take for garlic to sprout?

It usually takes 7 days for garlic to germinate after planting, but if the temperature is low, the germination will be slower. If the temperature is below 15℃, it will take about 15 days to germinate. If you want garlic to germinate faster, you should control the temperature at 20℃ and pre-treat the garlic seeds appropriately, such as soaking them in warm water for a period of time or performing germination treatment, which can accelerate the germination process.

2. Garlic sprout sowing method

1. Seed selection

Choose garlic seeds that are plump, free of pests and diseases, and undamaged. High-quality garlic seeds generally have a higher germination rate and stronger growth ability. Peel the garlic into individual cloves for germination and sowing. Meanwhile, prepare your planting containers and soil. Containers can be flower pots, plastic boxes, etc., and the soil should be loose, fertile, and well-drained, such as a mixture of leaf mold, garden soil, and river sand.

2. Germination treatment

Soaking and germination: Soak the peeled garlic cloves in clean water for 12-24 hours to allow them to fully absorb water and swell. You can also add some rooting powder or organic fertilizer to increase the germination rate. After soaking, take out and place in a humid environment, such as covering with a wet cloth or placing in a germination box, maintain suitable temperature and humidity, and it will generally germinate in about 7 days.

3. Sowing time

The best time to plant garlic varies by region and season. Generally speaking, it is more appropriate to sow in autumn or spring.

4. Sowing method

Sow the germinated garlic cloves into the soil at an appropriate spacing (5-8 cm), making sure the tips of the cloves are facing upwards. The sowing depth should be moderate, generally 3-5 cm. After sowing, cover with a thin layer of soil and compact it lightly.

5. Watering

Water immediately after sowing to keep the soil moist. But also be careful to avoid overwatering and waterlogging.

The above is an introduction to how many days it takes for garlic to germinate. Under suitable conditions, as long as the soil moisture is appropriate, it will germinate in about 5 days. Cover it with plastic film, and it will generally germinate in 7-10 days.
