Crucian carp is a common freshwater fish. It has an omnivorous diet, is resistant to low oxygen, is easy to breed, grows relatively fast, and has a relatively high yield, making it the first choice of many breeders. So how many crucian carp can be raised in one acre of fish pond? Let’s learn more about it below. How many crucian carp can be raised in one acre of fish pond? The number of crucian carp that can be raised in one acre of fish pond depends on many factors, including fish species specifications, water quality conditions of the fish pond, breeding technology and breeding purposes. For general commercial fish farming, it is recommended to stock 1500-1800 crucian carps weighing 25-50g per tail per acre. What preparations need to be made before stocking crucian carp? 1. Pond Preparation The pond for breeding crucian carp is required to be sheltered from the wind and facing the sun. At the same time, the pond area must be appropriate, generally 3-5 acres, with a water depth of 1.2-1.5 meters, a pond slope ratio of 1:1.5, a flat pond bottom of loam, a silt thickness of 15-20 cm, and convenient water inlet and outlet. 2. Pond cleaning and disinfection Before stocking, the pond water needs to be drained, the bottom of the pond exposed to the sun, and debris and most of the silt (about 70%) removed from the pond. This is followed by disinfection using quicklime to remove wild fish, predators and kill pathogens. 3. Pond fertilization 3-5 days before stocking, apply fermented manure or green manure to the pond to cultivate green algae and diatoms among phytoplankton to become the dominant algae. 4. Fry selection The source of seedlings should be self-propagated or from crucian carp breeding farms with seedling production licenses, or seedlings caught from natural waters of the place of origin. The seedlings purchased from abroad must pass quarantine and must not carry any infectious diseases or parasites . 5. Disinfection of fish fry Before stocking fry or fingerlings, the fish bodies need to be strictly disinfected by soaking them in 1%-3% salt water for 5-20 minutes or in 10-20 mg/L potassium permanganate solution for 15-30 minutes. 6. Stocking time The stocking of fry should be carried out from late November to the end of February of the following year, and it is best to do it on a sunny day, avoiding wind, rain, ice and snow to prevent frostbite. In general, the number of crucian carp that can be raised in an acre of fish pond depends on many factors. There is no fixed answer, but it needs to be flexibly adjusted according to actual conditions. Of course, before releasing crucian carp, the above preparations need to be done to provide a good growth environment for crucian carp, thus achieving efficient breeding.
