Rose grafting method

Rose grafting method

1. Grafting time

Rose grafting should be done in spring or autumn, when the temperature is more suitable and the survival rate is higher. Note that it should not be done too early in spring or too late in autumn, otherwise the temperature will be too low and it will be difficult for the plants to survive. In addition, be careful to avoid rainy days.

2. Grafting method

1. Choose the rootstock: There are many choices for grafted rose rootstocks, including rose, rose, and Chinese rose. Among them, wild roses are the best, with well-developed roots and strong resistance to diseases and pests, making them more suitable as rootstocks.

2. Select the scion: In addition to the rootstock, the selection of the scion also has its own considerations. Choose varieties with full buds and strong growth, which will be more conducive to successful grafting.

3. Grafting: Bud grafting can be used for grafting. First, cut off the buds and thorns at the grafting position, and cut a T-shaped incision on the rootstock. Be careful not to cut too deep, but cut the bark and it is best to cut in the middle of the branch, between the buds. Then cut a bud from the cambium and insert it into the rootstock with the bud facing upwards. After completion, fix it with a grafting tape and wrap the grafted part, leaving only the bud exposed.

4. Post-maintenance: Water thoroughly after grafting and keep the soil moist for the next half month, but do not allow water to accumulate. If new buds grow on the grafted rootstock, they should be cut off to preserve nutrients.
