Planting, cultivation and management techniques of Chinese cabbage

Planting, cultivation and management techniques of Chinese cabbage

Cabbage is a very common vegetable with a sweet taste and rich nutrition. Although its market price is not high, the demand is very strong. Growing cabbage is not difficult, but if you want to grow high-quality cabbage with good growth, high yield and dense heads, you still need to master some field management skills. Below is a brief introduction to the planting, cultivation and management techniques of cabbage.

1. Choose the right variety

Choose seeds with full grains, bright skin and shiny color to ensure good germination rate and seedling quality. Choose varieties that are adapted to the autumn climate and have strong disease resistance, cold resistance and storage resistance. Green-leaf varieties are usually more resistant to diseases than yellow-white-leaf varieties, and mid- and late-maturing varieties are more resistant to storage and transportation than early-maturing varieties.

Choose early-maturing or mid-to-late-maturing varieties according to soil, water and fertilizer conditions. Land with fertile soil is suitable for planting medium-to-late maturing, tall-standing, large-leaf varieties; land with poor soil is suitable for planting early maturing, short-standing, medium-to-small-leaf varieties.

2. Choose the right planting plot

Choose a plot with fertile soil, loose soil layer and good fertilizer and water retention capabilities. Cabbage should not be planted in the same crop year after year, nor should it be planted with cruciferous crops, so as to avoid increased diseases and pests and reduced yields.

3. Land Preparation and Fertilization

Deep plow the land half a month in advance, use sunlight to kill germs and pests, and activate the soil. 3-5 days before sowing, carry out fine land preparation, carry out drug sterilization and disinfection, and prevent and control underground diseases and insect pests. Mainly use decomposed farmyard manure or commercial organic fertilizer , and add appropriate amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to meet the growth needs of cabbage.

4. Sowing at the right time

Determine the sowing time flexibly according to local temperature and variety characteristics. The most suitable temperature for cabbage seeds to germinate and grow is 20-25℃, so they can be sown when the local temperature drops to this range.

5. Planting density

Determine the planting density according to the variety, plant type and soil fertility to ensure the growth and yield of Chinese cabbage. The method of row sowing along ridges and furrows is adopted, and sowing is carried out according to the plant spacing and row spacing of the variety.

6. Thinning and finalizing seedlings

After the seedlings emerge, thin out the seedlings in batches to keep the strong plants. Complete the transplanting of seedlings during the clustering period to ensure the number of trees per mu.

7. Transplanting and Planting

Transplant and plant about 3 weeks after sowing or when 5-6 leaves grow. Choose a rainy day or evening to transplant, transplant with soil, and water thoroughly in time to help the roots take root.

8. Intertillage and weeding

Carry out 2-3 inter-cultivation activities from the seedling stage to the clustering stage to improve soil permeability and promote the development of the root system. At the same time, weeds are removed from the field.

9. Squat seedlings to strengthen the trees

Slow down the seedlings during hot and rainy seasons to promote root growth. Control water and stunt seedlings from the middle of rosette stage to the early stage of heading to promote nutrient accumulation.

10. Bundling leaves

The leaves should be tied in the late stage of cabbage heading or half a month before maturity. Tie the leaves from two-thirds of the way up to make the core firmer.

The above is an introduction to the key points of cabbage cultivation. By following the above steps, you can ensure that the cabbage grows well, has high yield and excellent quality. I hope these technical points can help everyone grow high-quality cabbage.
