How to grow camphor tree seeds

How to grow camphor tree seeds

1. Seed Collection

Choose a healthy camphor tree that has not been attacked by pests and diseases as the mother plant, with a tree age between 20 and 50 years old. Pick the mature seeds in autumn, wash them off after the seed coat rots, and place them in a cool place to dry. Store the seeds in sandy soil until the following spring.

2. Germination

Take out the seeds in spring and soak them in warm water at 50℃. When the temperature drops, change the water and soak them 3-4 times. You can also bury the seeds in river sand, place them in the sun, turn them over several times a day, and spray them with water to keep them moist.

3. Land preparation

Choose sandy soil with deep soil layer and sufficient water as the nursery. Mix superphosphate and ferrous sulfate and sprinkle evenly on the soil surface. Then make it into a seedbed 25 cm high and 1.2 meters wide, which can provide sufficient space for the growth of seedlings.

4. Sowing

Make a furrow in each seedbed and sow the seeds 4-6 cm apart. After planting, cover with a layer of soil and then cover with straw to keep warm, which will allow the seeds to germinate better.

5. Seedling cultivation

After the seedlings emerge from the soil, remove the straw in time to avoid hindering their growth. In summer, pay attention to weeding and loosening the soil, and at the same time water appropriately to keep the substrate moist. Apply some urea and phosphorus fertilizer to make it grow stronger. Stop fertilizing and irrigation in autumn and winter, and wait until March or April of the following year to transplant to other places for planting.
