Cultivation methods and precautions of potted grapes

Potted grapes are easy to grow. You need to choose a suitable container to plant grapes. Terracotta pots are more suitable. The depth of the pot should be at least 35 to 45 cm. The best time to plant is spring or early summer. If planted at this time, the grapes can grow stronger and better survive the frost season.

How to grow potted grapes

During the growing season, potted grapes should be placed on a balcony or terrace, where the sun is most abundant outdoors, to promote their healthy growth. After three years of potted grapes, it is necessary to change the potting soil. The time for changing the pot can be chosen in early spring or autumn. Add some cake fertilizer and bone meal to the bottom of the pot as base fertilizer. Be sure to control watering in the potting soil. If the environmental humidity is high and the potting soil is always waterlogged, it will easily lead to root rot or even fruit falling. Frequent pruning will be beneficial to its flowering and fruiting next year.

1. Growth habits

Grapes prefer an environment with sufficient sunlight and warmth. Whether grapes can produce large and sweet fruits depends mainly on whether they get sufficient sunlight during the growth period. Good photosynthesis can increase the quality of the fruit. If there is insufficient sunlight, only leaves will grow without fruit, or even the leaves will grow too long.

2. Soil

The root system of grape trees is relatively developed, so there are certain requirements for the size of the container. According to the different varieties of grapes planted by each flower lover, the diameter of the flower pot should be around 25~35cm. There must be drainage holes at the bottom of the flower pot to prevent water accumulation in the grape trees.

3. Fertilization

Grapes are rich in nutrients and have a high water content. Their growth is highly dependent on fertilizers. Do not apply fertilizers during the initial germination period. Start applying nitrogen fertilizers slowly when germination is almost complete. In order to supply more and more nutrients needed by grapes, use phosphorus and potassium fertilizers or compound fertilizers before flowering. If you are not sure about the amount of fertilizer, you can apply fertilizer after diluting the fertilizer.

4. Watering

Grapevines are drought-tolerant and do not need to be watered too frequently. If grown outdoors, you must also take care of the grape pots in time to prevent water accumulation inside. Severe water accumulation will cause root rot. Grapevines do not need too much water. If the soil is not dry, there is no need to water them. It is most convenient and beneficial to the growth of grapes to wait until the soil is completely dry before watering them thoroughly.

5. Pruning

The shape of potted grape trees is relatively important. In order to achieve a good viewing effect, the shape of the plants can be pruned from time to time. In addition, because the growth of grapes requires a lot of nutrients, in order to prevent unnecessary nutrient loss, branches and leaves in poor growth or deformed fruits should also be pruned in time.

Precautions for potted grape maintenance

Be careful when growing potted grapes, as they are easily infected with white rot. You can use polymyxin liquid and spray it once every ten days for a month. Also, in spring, the period from when the sap starts to flow to when the buds sprout and the leaves unfold is the sap flow period. If you prune during the sap flow period, a large amount of water will flow out of the cut, and the tree may even die. Therefore, grape pruning should avoid the sap flow period.
