When to plant fig branches

When to plant fig branches

1. When to insert

The climate in different regions is different. The time for cuttings should be chosen when the temperature is stable at 20 degrees, that is, when the buds just sprout in early spring. At this time, they have just started to sprout, grow faster, and can recover quickly. In the southern regions, you can also choose summer, when the humidity is higher and can induce rooting. The timing is very important for growth. If the cuttings are taken too early and the climate is cold, the survival rate will be lower. If the cuttings are taken too late, the germination will be weaker.

2. Cutting method

1. Branches: The choice of branches is different for cuttings in different seasons. If it is cuttings in early spring, you can choose one to three years old branches that have not sprouted, and strong branches with a diameter of about 1-1.5 cm, and cut them into about 15-20 cm. If you are doing cuttings in summer, you can choose semi-woody green branches, which will root faster. After cutting the branches, soak them in water for about 5-8 days until white spots appear on them.

2. Substrate: The substrate for cuttings must be fertile and well-drained. It can be prepared with garden soil, river sand, and perlite, and sprayed with water to keep it moist.

3. Cuttings: Insert the branches obliquely into the substrate, about two-thirds of the way in. Water and spray to keep them moist, and place them under diffuse light to wait for rooting.
