When should peanuts be planted?

When should peanuts be planted?

When cultivating peanuts , you should choose a place with flat terrain, loose soil, convenient drainage and irrigation, and close to a water source. Before planting, the land should be deeply plowed and base fertilizer should be applied to enhance the fertility of the soil and ensure that the peanuts can get sufficient nutrients in the later stages of growth. So when should peanuts be planted?

When should peanuts be planted?

Peanut planting times vary by region, but in general:

1. Northern Region

The suitable sowing time for spring open-field cultivation is usually from mid-April to early May, this period is also known as "Guyu" to "Lixia". The sowing time in the early-maturing peanut areas of Northeast China is in early to mid-May.

2. The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River

The sowing period of spring peanuts is generally from early April to late April.

3. Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and Sichuan Basin

The spring peanut sowing period is from late March to late April.

4. Northwest Inland Area

The suitable time for spring sowing in Gansu, Hexi Corridor and Xinjiang is from late April to early May.

5. Summer peanut planting time

The best sowing period for summer direct-seeding peanuts during wheat intercropping in Beijing, Hebei, Shandong, Henan, northern Jiangsu and northern Anhui is from mid-May to mid-June.

Peanut Planting Methods

1. Land selection and land preparation

Peanut is a crop that blooms above ground and bears fruits underground. It is suitable for growing in loose sandy soil or sandy soil. The land for planting peanuts needs to be deep plowed, and 30-40 tons of high-quality farmyard manure should be applied per acre during plowing. After plowing the soil, compact it 1-2 times. If conditions permit, water it first, then mix farmyard manure and chemical fertilizer into the ridges, make ridges and compact them to prepare for timely sowing.

2. Seeding technology

2-3 days before sowing, the shelled peanuts for seeds should be dried in the sun, and the seeds should be mixed with a seed dressing agent containing a fungicide . After drying, they can be sown. Sow 2-3 seeds in each hole, and the recommended sowing depth is 1.5 inches. For clay or soil with good moisture conditions, you can sow shallowly; for sandy soil or soil with poor moisture conditions, you can sow deeply. After sowing, the seeds need to be suppressed.

3. Management after sowing

Weed control: Before covering the film after sowing or after sowing, spray pre-emergence chemical herbicides for weed control, using 100-150 ml of 50% acetochlor or 72% dole per acre.

Check the ground film: After the peanuts are sown with ground film, the field should be checked regularly. If the ground film is found to be loose, blown away by the wind or damaged, it should be dealt with in time.

Planting seedlings: After the peanuts emerge, the film should be opened in time to prevent the seedlings from being burned.

Check seedlings and replant: After the peanut seedlings emerge, the field should be checked in time. For plots with a large number of missing seedlings, germination and replanting should be carried out.

4. Fertilization and water management

When deep plowing the soil, apply 2,000 kg of high-quality farmyard manure per mu, and apply 15 kg of urea, 30 kg of superphosphate, and about 12 kg of potassium fertilizer. Boron fertilizer can also be applied as needed. After the base fertilizer is mixed evenly with the soil, sow the seeds according to the soil moisture conditions. Topdressing in the later stage should be based on the growth characteristics of peanuts. Topdressing should be appropriate in the seedling stage to prevent excessive topdressing from causing excessive growth of the aboveground part and affecting underground fruiting. At the same time, timely irrigation should be carried out in combination with topdressing and soil moisture conditions.

5. Harvest time

When the peanut leaves turn yellow and some of the stems and leaves dry up, they can be harvested, usually in mid-September. After harvesting, the seeds need to be dried to reduce moisture, which is beneficial to promote ripening and improve seed maturity. Peanuts for seed should be harvested and dried before frost.

To sum up, the best time to sow peanuts is mainly in mid-to-late April to early May in spring, and the specific time needs to be adjusted appropriately according to local climatic conditions.
