When is the right time to prune aloe vera?

The time for pruning aloe vera is usually chosen during its vigorous growing season, that is, spring and autumn. When pruning, you need to cut off the rotten leaves, poorly growing leaves and overgrown leaves. If the roots of the aloe vera are rotten, it also needs to be pruned.

Aloe Vera Pruning Tips

The prepared knife should be sharp. Disinfect the knife with alcohol, then start cutting along the base of the aloe leaf. Keep the incision flat and do not scratch the rhizome. Then cut off the lower leaves.

When aloe vera grows too vigorously, you can cut off the complicated leaves. When the tender roots are just sprouting, cut off the bottom of the leaf buds. This can appropriately inhibit the growth rate.

If you find that the aloe vera roots are rotten, cut off the rotten parts of the roots one by one, leaving no rotten roots. After they are dry, you can plant them in the soil.

When you want to repot the aloe vera, you can do some proper pruning and cut off some of the overgrown roots. If the aloe vera has not been repotted for 2-3 years, its roots will fill the entire pot and need to be pruned before repotting. When the aloe vera flowers have finished blooming and withered, you can cut off the flower stems to avoid excessive nutrient consumption and affect the next flowering.

Aloe Vera Pruning Tips

It is susceptible to rust. Once discovered, the diseased leaves should be cut off as soon as possible, and disinfectant should be applied to the wound to avoid infection of other leaves. After pruning, be careful not to let the wound get wet, otherwise it will easily cause black rot, which is not conducive to recovery.
